Hi everyone,
Welcome to the second weekly newsletter of 2021. I’ve got eight poems for you today, the extra one because it was my birthday on the 9th and I’ve included my annual birthday poem!
Also, thank you all so much for your kind words about last week’s newsletter. I really appreciate your thoughts & I hope you enjoy this week’s!
Monday
Here’s a love poem to start off the week. The shuffle on Spotify sent me a blessing last weekend and it inspired this poem! The song is below the poem, and the last line is lifted from the song so I wrote it in with her singing the line in mind.
Tuesday
This began as a freewrite, and I thought about line breaks, but it fit better in its original form so I tried to tidy up the punctuation as best as I could. That being said, who knows how I’ll feel in the future!
Wednesday
I feel no shame at all about my behaviour in certain public spaces, for one thing the adrenaline! and I would like to thank those who participated <3 it was joyous, much needed and freeing. Much love to myself at sixteen seventeen :)
Thursday
This is a sad one. I wrote it and then I read it over and it felt like what Arlo Parks is saying in ‘Black Dog’. I’m gonna put the song first to set the tone, just so you know what you’re in for. It's a tender poem, especially as you get towards the end. TW // MENTAL ILLNESS
Friday
I like this love poem a lot, it's very much me & although I reference ‘The Notebook’, I’m not a fan. That scene does make me a melt a bit though, as you can see.
Saturday
My birthday ! The 9th of January ! The annual birthday poem is titled ‘Twenty-two & Alive’ because if I’m being honest, it's a wonderful surprise!
The poem written on the day was very sad. But that doesn't steal from the fact that there were very beautiful & special moments!

Sunday
I think this is a sweet poem to end on, the last line in particular!
I think by sacrifice I’m also talking about choice because the thing about choices are that you have to sacrifice something whether you see it as sacrifice or not (?) but I opted to go with sacrifice because it was my first instinct! I’m curious about your thoughts on the distinction, if there is one, and if it would have made another impact on the poem?
I hope you enjoyed the poems this week. Let me know what you think and/or which of the poems you preferred/spoke to you the most! Let me also know about the content of the poems, and if there's a better system I can use for trigger warnings! I’ll see you next Sunday for the next newsletter <3
With Love,
Oyinda
Monday and Wednesday are my favourites of this week. Ohhhh Monday is so plush and beautiful and captures that feeling of wrapping yourself around someone so acutely! 🦋🦋
