Hi everyone,
Welcome to 365 Days of Poetry & Honesty. I hope the past week has been kind to you <3
I took last week off because there was a lot going on and I didn't have the patience to put the newsletter together, but I’m back and feeling ready to share some poetry
Here are some songs I’ve been listening to!
Monday
It's a sad one, but I’m proud of this poem
Tuesday
One of my favourite poems is about the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it's by Gregory Orr, and I was rereading it, thinking about the myth itself, and I wrote this from Orpheus’ perspective. Here's the link to the Gregory Orr if you want to read it, it's a beautiful poem!
Wednesday
I was thinking about Child Q, our conservative government, Ukraine, how black people are being treated at the borders, and I was reflecting on how the past is seeping into the present, and if I’m being honest, I’m afraid. So I wrote this poem, and I called on Billie Holiday, Martin Luther King, Toni Morrison, and Zora Neale Hurston, because of how deeply their life’s work has touched me, and how they inspire me to use my voice and to speak the truth. I hope you can feel that in the poem.
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
I knew the poems this week would most probably be sad, so I wanted to write something softer to kind of balance it out. And I was stuck for words so I used this magnetic poetry site to help me put something together. It's very sensual! I’ve put the link below if you want to use the website :)
Sunday
I love this poem.
Thank you for reading this week’s newsletter.
With love,
Oyinda
Thank you so much for sharing, I really enjoy your poetry. Thursday’s second poem really spoke to me, it’s so powerful!
