Hello!
Welcome to 365 Days of Poetry & Honesty ! not much to say today, would only really like to share this poem.
It’s by the immensely talented poet Gboyega Odubanjo, who was also my friend. We lost him last week and the grief is palpable. I wasn't even sure there’d be a newsletter this week but poetry is how I process and I really also just wanted to share some of his poems with you.
I met Gboyega last year, and I remember being in awe of him when he got up to perform. It was the resonance of his voice, how vulnerable & urgent his poetry was, you could tell you weree witnessing someone special, and outside of all my sadness and anger, I’m just so grateful that I got to know him. Gboyega was a shining light in the darkness and it’s not fair that he’s gone. My heart aches for everyone who knew him, especially his family and close friends.
